Updated! Now with workbooks and teaching guide!

Finally, a sex education curriculum that doesn't ask you to choose between scientific literacy and spiritual integrity. Written from an Orthodox perspective by an author with a bachelor's degree in biology, this comprehensive course weaves together anatomy, embryology, hormones, and ethics in a way that honors both rigorous science and sacred mystery.

Designed for high school students ready for adult conversations about sexuality, this curriculum assumes a foundation in biology while building bridges to theology, philosophy, and practical wisdom. Rather than offering sanitized platitudes or fear-based warnings, it provides young people with the intellectual and spiritual tools they need to navigate sexuality with sanity in an increasingly confused world.

This is religious freedom in action—the right to educate your children according to your deepest convictions about human nature, divine purpose, and the meaning of embodied love. Includes companion audio materials for parents seeking deeper theological context.

About This Curriculum:

Sometimes the most important conversations happen in the spaces between what everyone else is saying.

Sex Ed For Sane People emerged from that liminal place where a mother's love meets the stark reality that no one else was going to tell her children the truth about human sexuality—not the schools with their sterile mechanics, not the religious curricula that whispered around the edges of real questions, and certainly not the internet with its carnival of distortions.

This isn't another rule book. It's not a list of "don'ts" wrapped in fear, nor is it a clinical manual that treats human bodies like biological machines. Instead, it's an invitation into the secret language of what it means to be embodied icons of Christ—creatures designed for love so profound that even our sexuality becomes a pathway to the sacred.

What Makes This Different

I wrote this curriculum because I couldn't find anything that honored both the complexity of human desire and the luminous truth of Orthodox Christian teaching, and I needed something that was both scientifically valid and religiously respectful. Most sex education either reduces us to animals following instinct or presents sexuality as a necessary evil to be endured rather than a gift to be stewarded with reverence, and everywhere I looked, I either found materials that either ignored spirituality entirely, or sacrificed scientific rigor in favor of a poorly explained religious morality.  While some of the materials I found were okay, nothing fit the bill for exactly what I was looking for.   Eventually, after a lot of prayer and worrying, I had an epiphany: There is no perfect sex ed curriculum.

So... what if there's a third way? What if our bodies—in all their vulnerability and yearning—are actually whispering theological truths we've forgotten how to hear?
This book approaches sexuality the way Orthodox Christianity approaches everything: through the lens of theosis, the understanding that we are being transformed into the fullness of who God created us to be. It's grounded in solid biology and honest about the messy realities of human relationships, but it never loses sight of the fact that we are more than the sum of our hormones and nerve endings.

The Atmosphere of Truth

Written originally as a mother's letter to her own children, this curriculum carries the intimate warmth of someone who has wrestled with these questions in prayer and emerged with hope intact. It assumes intelligence without condescension, acknowledges the spiritual warfare inherent in sexuality without falling into despair, and offers practical wisdom without losing the sense of wonder that should attend all discussions of human love.
Here you'll find:
  • Honest biology that serves spiritual formation rather than replacing it
  • Ethical frameworks that explain the why behind Christian sexual teaching
  • Gentle guidance through the contemporary maze of gender ideology and sexual confusion
  • Practical wisdom for navigating relationships in a hypersexualized culture
  • Hope for healing, no matter what mistakes have been made

For Parents Who Refuse to Surrender

This curriculum is for parents who believe their children deserve better than the cultural scripts being handed down—parents who recognize that the most radical act of love is to tell the truth, even when it's complicated, even when it requires courage, even when it means swimming against the current of everything our society calls normal.
It's for families who understand that true education is always spiritual formation, and that every conversation about sexuality is ultimately a conversation about the nature of love itself.

A Living Document

Sex Ed For Sane People will be relaunching this summer with additional materials and resources, because the conversation about human sexuality is never finished—it deepens with each generation's questions and evolves with each family's unique needs.
This is education as relationship, learning as pilgrimage, and sexuality as one more place where the ordinary world reveals itself to be perpetually on the verge of transformation.
In a culture that has forgotten the secret languages of the body and the soul, this book remembers. In a world that treats human sexuality as either shameful or trivial, it insists on the radical middle path: sexuality as sacred gift, worthy of our deepest reverence and our most careful attention.

Audio Companion: "Turning Venom Into Medicine"

For parents and educators seeking deeper theological and philosophical context, the curriculum includes excerpts from Turning Venom Into Medicine: Meditations on Sexual Sobriety—intimate audio talks that explore the mystical dimensions of human sexuality through an Orthodox Christian lens.
These contemplative meditations venture into territory where few dare to tread: the intersection of Trinitarian theology and embodied love, the spiritual meaning of gender, and the transformation of sexual desire from potential poison into medicine for the soul. Here, the conversation moves beyond mechanics and morality into the realm of sacred mystery—examining how our sexuality reflects the very nature of Reality itself.
Turning Venom Into Medicine doesn't offer easy answers or simplified formulas. Instead, it provides a framework for understanding why the Church's teachings on sexuality aren't arbitrary restrictions but invitations into a deeper participation in the divine life.
These audio reflections serve as advanced study material—perfect for parents who want to understand the "why" behind Christian sexual ethics, for anyone wrestling with contemporary challenges to traditional teaching, for anyone seeking to integrate their faith with their lived experience of being an embodied soul in a hypersexualized world.
The talks assume no prior theological training but don't shy away from complexity. They speak to the heart as much as to the mind, recognizing that questions of sexuality and spirituality require both intellectual rigor and contemplative openness.."

We teach from what we know and how we live.

The distance created by writing and reading makes this significantly less awkward than "the talk"—but infinitely more profound.
This curriculum has something for both you and your students.  13 audio tracks for you to listen to and think about, a PDF manual for you to print out and tailor to your students, and a link to a private Telegram community for support and inspiration.

Through the prayers of Saint Mary of Egypt, Lord have mercy on us!
