Writing at the intersection of reality and enchantment
I write at the intersection of the sacred and the strange, where reality grows thin enough to let the light through.
My fiction explores the liminal spaces—thresholds, mirrors, moments of breaking open—where ordinary life reveals its hidden depths. In my stories, trees fall in love with humans, rattlesnakes ask existential questions, and protective blue beads carry the weight of generations. I'm drawn to characters caught between safety and authenticity, between the familiar and the transcendent.
Working primarily in magical mystical realism, I craft stories that investigate what it means to be human in an enchanted universe. My Orthodox Christian faith informs my work, but the magic I write belongs to everyone who has ever wondered if the world is more alive than it appears.
I write in both C.S. Lewis's critical and creative voices—sometimes looking "along the beam" through the lived experience of story, sometimes stepping back to examine it "at the beam" through reflection and analysis. When I'm not writing fiction, I explore the sacred through different lenses: homeschooling my children using Charlotte Mason's living books philosophy, reflecting on how stories shape our understanding of truth, and wondering why Saint Michael might appear to comfort a frightened child, or why a particular lion might purr in the lap of his saintly friend.
I believe in the power of stories to crack us open, to make us feel less alone, to remind us that the universe might be conspiring in our favor after all.
I have so many stories to tell you.

2026 is a big year!! Forthcoming:
I'm thrilled to share what's coming next: a new children's book, illustrated by the talented artist and designer Barbara Kavchok, and the launch of my new, independently published magical realism series. These projects represent everything I'm passionate about—stories that honor the sacred in everyday life, the power of imagination to transform how we see the world, and the belief that magic is always closer than we think.
Between now and then, I'll be sharing deep-dive thinking pieces on my Substack that explore the intersection of faith, technology, and storytelling. My recent essay "We Are All Fairies to Each Other"—which examines how the internet functions as a kind of digital fairyland that requires the same wisdom our ancestors brought to otherworldly encounters—has resonated with more readers than anything I've written so far. Expect more explorations like this as I continue wrestling with the big questions that keep me up at night. I'll also be publishing new flash fiction there—those compressed moments where the ordinary world cracks open to reveal its hidden magic.
Stay tuned for more details, cover reveals, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of these projects as they unfold. There's so much magic ahead.

My latest published work, Patterns for Life: An Orthodox Reflection on Charlotte Mason Education, weaves together two educational philosophies that were always meant to find each other.
Co-authored with fellow Orthodox home-educating mother Lisa Rose, this book explores how Charlotte Mason's living education naturally aligns with Orthodox spiritual formation. We discovered that Mason's reverence for the child as a whole person, her emphasis on living books over textbooks, and her understanding that education is the science of relations echo the Orthodox understanding of how souls grow toward theosis. This isn't just another homeschool manual—it's part educational philosophy, part spiritual memoir, part love letter to the idea that learning should nourish the whole child. Whether you're Orthodox families curious about Charlotte Mason, Mason families seeking deeper spiritual roots, or anyone who believes that education should feed the soul as much as the mind, this book offers a path toward schooling that honors both intellectual rigor and spiritual wonder. At its heart, Patterns for Life argues that true education isn't about filling empty vessels with information, but about nurturing the natural patterns through which children make sense of their world—patterns that reflect the divine order woven into creation itself. Come visit me on Substack, where stories and ideas cross-pollinate like fireflies in a summer meadow. "dephilosophize me" (lauraewolfe.substack.com) is where I share the fiction that won't let me sleep, the books that rearrange my thinking, and the philosophical rabbit holes I can't resist exploring. "Patterns For Life" (orthodoxcm.substack.com) dives into Orthodox Charlotte Mason homeschooling—because raising children and crafting stories are both acts of faith in what's possible.
A Note About My Newsletter
Right now, my author newsletter lives on Substack—it's where I'm building community and sharing my latest writing, reviews, and reflections. But if you're thinking long-term (and I hope you are!), consider signing up for my website newsletter as well. While Substack is my current creative playground, this website will always be my permanent home base. As my writing evolves and my audience grows, I'll be transitioning more content and exclusive updates here. Think of the website newsletter as your front-row seat to wherever this literary journey takes us—you'll be the first to know about new projects, upcoming publications, and any exciting changes on the horizon. Plus, you'll never have to worry about algorithm changes or platform shifts affecting how we stay connected. |
The World's More Full of Wonders... I'm an author who writes from the conviction that the world is far more alive than it appears. My stories translate the secret languages I've learned to speak—the whispered conversations between fireflies and heartbreak, the ancient songs that stones sing when no one's listening.
I write to share the magic I can't stop seeing. Support small businesses!
